Business interruption insurance is coverage on your business insurance policy that provides you protection in the event that something happens that’s covered by your insurance policy, like a tornado or a fire or a lightning strike, prohibits you from earning the income that you would be able to earn if the business hadn’t had to close because of that incident. That’s the trigger, is a covered loss. What it does is provides replacement of your income for the period of time that you’re unable to operate because of the loss of your power or your water or something that is essential to how you run your business. In broad terms, that is what business interruption insurance is all about.
